Overview
This article explains how to track content changes using version control in Contently. You’ll learn how to compare different versions of content, review changes, and revert to previous versions if necessary, ensuring a smooth and transparent editing process.
Information
Version control in Contently helps you track changes made to content throughout the creation and editing process. By keeping a record of all versions, teams can review edits, ensure consistency, and maintain a history of changes. This feature also allows you to compare different versions side by side, making it easier to see what changes were made and who made them.
Here’s how to use version control in Contently:
Step 1: Accessing version history
- Navigate to the story page of the content you are working on.
- On the left-hand side of the page, scroll down to the "Version Control" section.
- Click on "View Versions" to access the full version history of the content. Each version will be timestamped, and you can see who made changes and when.
Step 2: Comparing versions
- Once in the version control view, you can select two different versions to compare side by side.
- Content that has been removed in the current version will be highlighted with a red strikethrough, while content added in the new version will be highlighted in green.
- This visual comparison makes it easy to see exactly what changes were made between versions.
Step 3: Reverting to a previous version
- If you find that a previous version of the content is preferable, you can revert to it by clicking the "Revert" button next to the desired version.
- Reverting will replace the current draft with the previous version, but the changes will still be tracked in the version history for future reference.
- Make sure to communicate with your team before reverting any major changes to avoid confusion or overlap in work.
Step 4: Using version control for team collaboration
- Version control is especially useful when multiple team members are collaborating on a single piece of content. It allows you to keep track of who made what changes, ensuring accountability and transparency.
- Inline comments can also be used alongside version control to provide additional context or feedback about specific changes made to the content.
Version control not only ensures that content is edited efficiently but also protects the integrity of the content by keeping a complete history of all changes. This allows teams to work collaboratively while maintaining a clear record of progress and revisions.
Summary
Tracking content changes with version control in Contently ensures that you can monitor, compare, and manage edits throughout the content creation process. By maintaining a clear history of all versions, version control enables teams to review changes, revert to previous versions if needed, and collaborate more effectively, ensuring transparency and consistency in content production.
